Let us help you learn more about the Advanced Worksite Traffic Management (AWTM) Non-Practitioner accreditation, what it entails, the benefits of having it and the responsibilities of an accredited Advanced Worksite Traffic Management (AWTM) Non-Practitioner.
Please refer to Traffic Management for Works on Roads Code of Practice for full overview: 2.16 Section 8
New accreditation for people in Main Roads and Local Government Areas (LGAs) to undertake the Advanced Worksite Traffic Management course written assessments and come away with the AWTM – Non-Practitioner
accreditation:
8.5.1 Advanced Worksite Traffic Management – Non – Practitioner
The Advanced Worksite Traffic Management – Non – Practitioner (AWTM-NP) will generally be a person within the Road Agency or Authorised Body that’s role is to review TMPs, monitor implementation and/or undertake surveillance. A Main Roads accreditation certificate in AWTM-NP will be issued to those that undertake the 4-day AWTM course and successfully complete all class written assessments but will not be required to undertake the post course TMP assessments.
• There are no pre-requisites to undertake the course.
The intent of the Advanced Worksite Traffic Management (AWTM) Non-Practitioner accreditation is to:
- Differentiate between the current cohort undertaking Worksite Traffic Management (WTM) accreditation:
- Site based traffic management workers that require the WTM accreditation to supervise the temporary traffic management site and make on-site adjustments
- Workers that do not directly undertake temporary traffic management roles, but are involved in reviewing TMPs, conducting surveillance activities, etc. (e.g. office-based staff in road authorities, Project Managers, Surveillance officers, safety managers, operations managers, etc.)
- Encourage more people to undertake the training and continue to seek ongoing refresher training in roles that are not directly undertaking temporary traffic management activities.
The below table provides an overview of the change:
| Main Roads Accreditation | Prerequisites | Course requirements | Tasks | Eligibility for Refresher Training |
| Worksite Traffic Management | Exemption for BWTM accreditation for approving bodies to be removed, i.e. BWTM must be current to undertake course.
All other perquisites remain. |
No changes |

This includes adjusting, modifying, adding and/or removing signs and devices where the intent/objectives of the TMP and operation of the road network are not adversely impacted. Changes to the TMP/TGS must not involve adding lane or road closures, speed limit changes, or adding any additional regulatory signs that have not been approved (note: WTMs may add repeater signs). |
