The Construction Training Fund (CTF) supports and subsidises training for those building WA by supporting the training and development of a skilled workforce.
Subsidies are available to reduce training costs, making it easier for eligible businesses and employees to access the training they need when they need it.
Subsidies of up to 80% are available to help reduce training costs for eligible businesses and employees to develop and enhance the skills required by a growing industry.
What does this mean?
Where you provide AusQ Training with information that indicates you or your employees are an eligible worker under the CTF, we will reduce your initial fee payment to the amount excluding the applicable CTF rebate amount. AusQ Training will then take care of the required documentation and then claim the difference of the fee amount from the CTF.
Eligible Companies/Individuals must be;
- Directly employed in the building and construction industry in WA, working in operational on-site positions
- Construction companies undertaking projects in WA
- Self-employed and undertaking work which is directly involved in the construction process
If an individual is unemployed at the time of undertaking a short course recognised by the CTF, they must be able to;
- Demonstrate that they were directly employed in the construction industry in WA for a minimum of six months, within 12 months prior to the date of course commencement; or
- If no recent work experience is involved, have written evidence of a relevant offer of employment (inclusive of commencement date) from an eligible company or contractor in the construction industry for direct employment in the construction industry.
Employment offer must be documented in a formal letter including the following details as a minimum;
- Letter from an eligible company or contractor in the construction industry, on a relevant company letterhead and showing all company details including ABN, address and contact details
- Offer made is before the training commencement date and date shown on the letter
- Full name of participant is listed and matches person who is enrolled for training
- Enrolled for a short course recognised and approved as eligible for CTF Funding
- Includes confirmed start date – pending successful completion of the course (Confirmed start date must be five (5) working days from training completion date)
- Includes type of employment eg full time, part time, casual, daily hire, etc
- Casual and Daily hires must be able to provide at least five days of work history, working at construction-related worksites. This evidence must be supplied within 7 days after the course completion date
Unemployed participants may be required to provide additional documentation to assist CTF to process a claim.
Ineligible Companies/Individuals include;
- Government departments, agencies, and Government employees.
- Mining, oil, gas and mineral exploration companies.
- Companies that manufacture supply or deliver building products.
- Companies that manufacture, supply, deliver or install non-building products after completion of the construction process.
- Companies that install, maintain, repair and inspect elevators and escalators.
- Companies that provide maintenance or repairs of a minor nature after the construction phase.
- Carpet laying or floor covering companies and contractors

The CTF supports employers to reduce the cost of employing an apprentice or trainee in a range of construction occupations in WA.
If you employ a registered apprentice or trainee through direct indenture, you may be eligible to receive grants totaling up to $25,000* to help reduce the cost of training. Please refer to the CTF Guidelines for further detailed information regarding traineeships grants and incentives (refer to pages 11-14 and 29) click here.
If you employ your apprentice or trainee through a group training scheme (GTO), they will receive the grant and use it to reduce your costs. The CTF grants are in addition to current employer incentives provided by the Commonwealth Government.
Where eligibility of an applicant is in question, the CTF will seek evidence of eligibility via review of a detailed, recent work history form.
Although the definition of construction refers to ‘on-site’ activities, under certain conditions subsidies may also be provided to workers whose normal duties may not always require them to attend site on a daily basis. Service providers to the building and construction industry may be eligible for subsidised training in occupational health and safety.
If the CTF after reviewing the information you provided, makes the decision that you are not an eligible worker, AusQ Training will issue an additional invoice to you for the payment of the outstanding amount for the full cost of the training.
The final determination regarding eligibility rests with the Construction Training Fund.
