This one (1) day reaccreditation course provides participants with updated information on the latest changes and requirements to safely implement a traffic management plan, control traffic with a stop/slow bat, ensuring traffic flow is maintained and the safety risk to all road users and workers is minimised. The course is delivered face to face and training includes classroom activities, theory questionnaires, group activities, implementing traffic signs and controlling traffic using real live road environments. Assessments include theory questionnaires, practical application and observation using a range of locations and scenarios.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge of the latest regulatory and industry changes and requirements over the last 3 year period

Knowledge about changes to legislative resources such as Main Roads WA Code of Practice for Works on Road & Events, Austroads Guides etc

Verification of skills to setup, monitor and close down traffic control devices according to a TMP/TGS, WHS and legislative requirements

Verification of skills to control traffic with a stop/slow bat and maintain effective flow and safety of traffic

Verification of skills communicating with others and operate a two-way radio correctly and effectively

Verification of skills carrying out risk assessments for personal safety and plan for emergencies that may arise

Verification of skills to identify risks/hazards and safety implications of traffic management at road works and apply control measures

Competencies

This is a non accredited course, therefore, no nationally recognised Statement of Attainments are included or issued.

AusQ Training is a Main Roads WA approved training provider, therefore, upon successful completion and meeting all the required Main Roads WA pre requisites, participants will also receive a digital Main Roads WA Basic Worksite Traffic Management & Traffic Controller (BWTM & TC) accreditation (valid for 3 years). All certification records are issued in digital format and will be sent through your email.

Pre Entry Requirements

In order to meet Main Roads WA requirements, participants MUST:

Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Provide photographic identification upon arrival at training course (eg driver’s licence, passport etc)

Hold a current Main Roads WA Basic Worksite Traffic Management & Traffic Controller (BWTM & TC) accreditation (or be within the 3 month grace period of expiry)

Hold a Statement of Attainment in RIIWHS302E Implement traffic management plan or equivalent

Hold a Statement of Attainment in RIIWHS205E Control traffic with a stop-slow bat

Hold a Statement of Attainment in RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace

Have an adequate level of English literacy, numeracy and reading skills as training will involve reading work instructions and legislation, interpreting traffic guidance schemes, undertaking basic calculations, listening and questioning to clarify instructions

Have good level of physical fitness/health as training will involve lifting/moving signs and devices (approximately 6-8kgs each), setting up/packing down sites and standing for period of up to 2 hours conducting traffic control

Hold evidence of being issued a valid Construction Induction Training Card also referred to as (Blue/White) Card

Hold (or have held) an Australian Driver’s Licence

Have evidence of active engagement in the industry within the previous 12 months such as work experience and/or employer/client references

Details of a minimum of three (3) worksites with a supervisor’s contact details that can be verified. Details required to provide will include the date of work, site location and suburb, description of works, contractor, supervisor name and contact details. These must be within the last twelve (12) months and must relate to the accreditation being offered e.g. Traffic Controller must have undertaken Traffic Controller duties at 3 worksites.

A completed and signed site specific SWMS, JSA or other hazard assessment used on a worksite by the applicant within the last twelve (12) months

To wear appropriate work attire, including:

steel capped boots

hi-visibility clothing

gloves

hat/sun protection

wet weather gear (where required)

This PPE is essential due to practical training and assessment completed during this course.

The above-listed requirements and evidence must be supplied with your enrolment no later than ten (10) working days prior course commencement. This is a requirement to confirm your eligibility and to confirm your place in the course. This is required to allow issuing of a Main Roads WA accreditation at the successful completion of the course.

Construction Training Fund (CTF) SubsidyMetropolitan Rate $248 – You pay $108 per personRegional Rate $272 – You pay $84 per person Note: This subsidy is available to eligible participants only.

The Construction Training Fund provides funding support for training of eligible workers in the construction industry. We acknowledge the support of the Construction Training Fund in reducing the costs of training for eligible workers.
