With so many letters thrown together, it can be confusing to know which course is right for you.  The difference between our BWTM and BWTM & TC training course is where we see the most confusion coming from our customers enrolling in traffic management training.

When our traffic management training courses are abbreviated you will notice, it is the beginning of each letter that is used and then put together for the abbreviated course name. See a few quick examples below:

Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM)

Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) is suited to those who ONLY need to implement signs and devices (not control traffic with a stop-slow bat).

The Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) two (2) day course is a mandatory requirement to work on or near roads within WA. The course provides participants the theory and practical skills required to implement a traffic management plan, ensuring traffic flow is maintained and the safety risk to all road users and workers is minimised.

This course does not include how to control traffic using a Stop/Slow bat.

Upon successful completion of the Main Roads WA Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) accreditation, you are permitted to set up and implement all signs, in accordance with the authorised Traffic Management Plan (TMP). Signs and devices can range from advance warning, regulatory, hazard markers and delineation just to name a few.

The BWTM course is suited to job roles who work off the road in verge areas; such as Landscape Gardeners, Surveyors, Weed Sprayers, Line-Markers, Project Managers and more.

Basic Worksite Traffic Management & Traffic Control (BWTM & TC)

Basic Worksite Traffic Management & Traffic Control (BWTM & TC) course is suited to those implementing signs and devices PLUS controlling traffic with a stop-slow bat. This accreditation is our MOST POPULAR training course and what majority of employers require. If you are looking at gaining employment as a Traffic Controller on WA Roads you will be required to hold this level of accreditation.

The Basic Worksite Traffic Management & Traffic Controller (BWTM & TC) three (3) day course is a mandatory requirement to work on roads and control traffic within WA. The course provides participants the theory and practical skills required to implement traffic management and control traffic for works on roads, ensuring traffic flow is maintained and the safety risk to all road users and workers is minimised.

Upon successful completion of the Main Roads WA Basic Worksite Traffic Management & Traffic Control (BWTM & TC) accreditation, you are permitted to set up and implement all signs, in accordance with the authorised Traffic Management Plan (TMP) and stop and direct road users using a stop/slow bat.

The BWTM & TC course is suited for job roles such as Traffic Controllers, Crew Leaders, Supervisors, General Labourers, Project Managers, Plant Operators and more.

Common Questions

Q: After completing the Main Roads WA accreditation, then I require the additional TC accreditation, can I proceed to upgrade and then achieve a MRWA BWTM & TC Accreditation?

A: Yes, this can occur, and we can assist – please contact our Customer Support team for further information. However, it is really important to advise that doing the two accreditations at different times, does result in additional time and costs. Where possible, we recommend completing the course as a whole to save time and costs.

Q: Are the Main Roads pre-requisites and pre-entry requirements the same for the BWTM and BWTM & TC Course?

A: No, there are some slight difference in pre-entry requirements, if you are unsure be sure to check out the full course overview for each course type to ensure you meet the criteria.

Q: I am from another state and already have my BWTM & TC traffic management accreditations, what do I need to do to work in WA?

A: Each state does have different requirements therefore to understand your situation please contact our office to provide further details.  In the event you have completed training in another state and have received nationally recognised qualification statement of attainments, please provide copies of these documents or alternatively a copy of your Unique Student Identifier (USI) transcript when enquiring.

Q: How long are my Main Roads WA traffic management accreditations valid for and how do I renew my accreditations?

A: Your Main Roads WA traffic management accreditation is valid for 3 years only. If your card has expired more than 3 months ago, you then become ineligible to complete refresher training and will instead be required to complete the full 3-day course again in accordance with the Main Roads WA Provision of Service Agreement – Delivery of Main Roads Western Australia Traffic Management Accreditation.
