Operate Light Vehicle (OLV)

This one (1) day nationally recognised course provides students with the theory and practical skills required to operate a light vehicle and is aimed at those working in operational roles. The course includes planning and preparing for a journey, vehicle prestart inspection, start-up / shutdown procedures, select and load equipment and completing minor maintenance on a light vehicle. A light vehicle is a vehicle with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 4.5 tonne or less, this includes all vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, trailers, caravans, utilities etc that have a GVM of 4.5 tonne or less. This course is delivered face to face and includes practical training and assessments.

Learning Outcomes

Plan and prepare for vehicle travel and operations including light vehicle refuelling procedures, loading/offloading procedures, map reading and road navigation techniques

Identify and report potential hazards and risk

Carry out pre start, start up, park up and shutdown procedures including selecting and wearing required PPE for planned work activities

Select and load equipment and / or ancillary attachment including methods of securing loads, equipment and trailer characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

Operate a light vehicle and associated equipment within recommended speed, engine capability, limitations and in accordance with traffic regulations

Conduct inspections and perform maintenance

Knowledge of fatigue management techniques

Competencies

Upon successful completion, all participants will be issued by AusQ Training RTO 52361 with the following nationally recognised Statement of Attainments:

Days Time
1 day 7:30 am – 4:00 pm (please arrive 15 minutes prior course times)

Pre Entry Requirements

Participants are required to:

Provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Provide photographic identification upon arrival at training course (eg driver’s licence, passport etc)

Have an adequate level of English literacy, numeracy and reading skills as training will involve reading work instructions/maps, undertaking basic calculations and writing safety documentation

Hold a current Australian manual Drivers Licence C Class. Licences must be presented to the Assessor prior to commencement of the course. Note – Please advise when enrolling if any participants hold an extraordinary licence as particular conditions may apply.

Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation.

To wear appropriate work attire, including:

steel capped boots

hi-visibility clothing

gloves

hat/sun protection

wet weather gear (where required)

This PPE is essential due to practical training and assessment completed during this course

Construction Training Fund (CTF) Subsidy is available for this training course to eligible participants only.

The Construction Training Fund provides funding support for training of eligible workers in the construction industry. We acknowledge the support of the Construction Training Fund in reducing the costs of training for eligible workers.
